WorldSpace Corporation, a digital audio broadcast system has launched its services in India. The corporation has tied up with four of the leading consumer electronics manufacturers - Hitachi, JVC, Panasonic and Sanyo to design and manufacture the special receivers needed to receive the WorldSpace service. The receivers are priced from Rs. 4,990 to Rs. 11,990 and are being sold through the manufacturer's retail outlets. As well as through additional distribution channels arranged by WorldSpace. " We have already spent around $ 3.5 million to establish ourselves here and another 25 million would be invested over a period of three years". Said M. Sebastian Director business development, Wroldspace. The corporation has launched its satellite Asia Star in March 2000. The satellite AsiaStar in March 2000. With the computerization of the various functions of I-T department, income tax returns can be filled using the online facility. "Computerization of the department's operations is going on at a fast pace with a view to ensuring international standards in the matter of tax payer services.". said the Chairman of the Centrao Board of Direct Taxes N Balasubramaniam. |

Computerization of the income tax returns of salaried class is almost complete. The coming phases would stretch to the returns of business and trade to be followed by corporate houses. This online facility will finally extend to all sections of tax payers. |

| Balasubramaniam said this yer's tax colletion target is Rs. 720 billion, which is 29 per cent more than that of last year. He added that due to the various measures being initiated by the department, the tax payers base had multiplied this year compared to last year.
